The score was tied at 4 after nine. Turn of Century won the game in the 11th inning. Kelley lined a one-base hit. Kelley took his lead and swiped second. Hugh Duffy then doubled giving Turn of Century the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times. Vic Willis(3-1) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Lazaro Salazar(1-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits without retiring a batter. The big moment was provided by Mickey Mantle who silenced the stadium when he bombed a two-run dinger (his 7th of the season). After the 3rd inning, neither team was able to score. The winning pitcher was Nolan Ryan(1-2) who allowed 4 runs in 7 innings. Rollie Fingers gained credit for his 4th save. Lyons(2-1) was tagged with the loss. Chesbro(2-2) pitched well for Dead Ball Era in their victory. He went 9 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 walks lowering his ERA to 4.43. Dead Ball Era rapped out 12 hits for the night. Cannonball Redding(1-4) was the losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 12 hits and 7 walks in 8 innings. The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. NL Pre WWII won it in the 10th inning. After two were out Mel Ott hit a bases-empty home run (his 8th of the season). NL Pre WWII out-hit FOFC for the game, 11 hits to 6. Burleigh Grimes(4-0) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Jace Kronside(3-1) was the loser in relief. He gave up 2 hits and no walks in 1 inning. When questioned, Leo Durochure remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt this good - heck, it's been a while since we had a win period!' OLD TIMERS AT LATE 20TH Ancients........ 1 3 1 4 0 1 0 2 0 - 12 19 0 Modern Stars.... 0 0 0 0 1 1 0 0 1 - 3 7 1 Win:Galvin(4-1) Loss:Eckersley(0-1) Homeruns- C.Ripken(3rd) Pud Galvin allowed Frank Selee to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game and right fielder Sam Thompson had 4 hits and scored 3 times as the Old Timers Ancients defeated the Late 20th Modern Stars by the score of 12 to 3 at Free Agent Field. Galvin(4-1) gave Old Timers a solid outing. He allowed 7 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Old Timers dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings. Dennis Eckersley(0-1) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings. With this win, Old Timers has a 10-11 record. They have been 6-4 lately. Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Late 20th is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record of 11-14. The Negro League I fans enjoyed the offense provided by Dandridge. He hit a single in the 2nd inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 3rd inning, ripped a base-knock which was good for two runs in the 5th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 1st of the season) in the 7th inning. Negro League I had 13 hits for the night. Rogan(3-3) allowed 1 run on the game. Takehiko Bessho(1-3) was given the loss. Negro League I scored big getting 5 runs off him in 4 innings. NL Post WWII tallied 3 runs in the 6th inning. Left Outs had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Bob Gibson(3-1) went 6 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Gibson got help from Jim Bunning who earned his 3rd save. Herb Pennock(1-3) ended up with the loss. 'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said Sparky Anderson after the game. 'We lost this game today because we didn't follow the instructions every Little Leaguer hears every day.'
