The score was tied at 7 after nine. Negro League I won the hard fought contest in the 13th inning. Ray Dandridge doubled. After an out was recorded, Bell stepped in and he lined a one-base hit giving Negro League I the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Negro League I finished with 15 hits in the victory. Smokey Joe Williams(4-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no runs. Dennis Martinez(0-2) ended up with the loss in relief. By giving up 1 run in 1/3 of an inning his ERA increased from 4.76 to 5.19. 'I felt great out there today' Bell said. 'I was seeing the ball perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing. Clarkson(2-3) pitched well for Old Timers in their victory. He surrendered 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings and served up 2 'big flies' lowering his ERA to 4.63. Old Timers banged out 10 on the afternoon. Cannonball Redding(1-5) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 5 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. 'All of my pitches were working today,' Clarkson said. 'I felt really good out there, and heck, I think I could have gone longer.' Turn of Century took the lead for good in the bottom of the 7th inning scoring a single run. Late 20th had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Rusie(3-0) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Randy Johnson(2-5) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings giving up 9 hits and 1 walk. Alexander(4-2) earned his pay with a solid performance for Alexander. He went 9 innings allowing 8 hits and 3 walks. Dead Ball Era made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. The losing pitcher was Ed Walsh(3-4). 'It was a tough one to lose' said John McGraw 'We'll get them next time out.' AL POST WWII AT NL POST WWII Post-Americans.. 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 - 1 5 0 Post-Nationals.. 5 3 0 0 2 1 0 0 - 11 12 1 Win:Gibson(4-1) Loss:Hunter(2-2) Homeruns- R.Jackson(6th), R.Clemente(9th), W.Mays(11th), O.Cepeda(1st) Bob Gibson went the distance and first baseman Orlando Cepeda connected with a 'big fly' and had 4 RBI as the NL Post WWII team crushed the AL Post WWII ballclub 11 to 1. Cepeda had a good day at the plate. He doubled scoring two baserunners in the 1st inning, blasted a two-run home run (his 1st of the season) in the 5th inning and stroked a base-hit in the 7th inning. NL Post WWII managed 12 in their victory. Gibson(4-1), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. The loss was charged to Catfish Hunter(2-2). He gave up 6 hits and 2 walks in 1 and 2/3 innings. LEFT OUTS AT JAPANESE LEAGUE Leftovers....... 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 2 0 - 3 7 4 HOF Players..... 0 0 0 5 1 2 0 0 - 8 6 0 Win:Inao(1-4) Loss:Roberts(3-3) Homeruns- H.Kato(1st), M.Matsubara(1st) Kazuhisa Inao tossed a complete game and Saduharu Oh had 2 base hits at Nintendo Field where the Japanese League HOF Players beat the Left Outs Leftovers 8 to 3. Japanese League had 5 runs cross the plate in the 4th inning when they had 3 base hits. The highlight belonged to Makato Matsubara who came through for the home fans when he cleared the bases with a Grand Slam homerun (his 1st of the season). Japanese League had only 6 hits for the game. Inao(1-4) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Robin Roberts(3-3) took the loss. He allowed Japanese League 5 runs in 4 innings of work.
