Tiant Jr.(1-0) gave Caribbean a solid outing. He allowed only 8 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 4.50 to 3.41. Caribbean totaled 10 on the afternoon. Rube Foster(0-1) was given the loss. Tiant Jr. was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on.' Old Timers tallied 6 runs in the 6th inning when they had 8 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Sam Thompson who silenced the crowd when he delivered a base-hit scoring two baserunners. The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. Radbourn(2-3), allowing 5 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Chet Brewer(1-5) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Puckett enjoyed a big day at the plate. He tripled in the 2nd inning, slapped a single in the 5th inning, bombed a two-run dinger (his 5th of the season) in the 7th inning and banged out a one-base hit in the 9th inning. Late 20th ended up with 12 hits for the game while Turn of Century had 8. The win was credited to Pedro Martinez(1-1) who went 6 innings allowing 5 runs. Cy Young(4-3) took the loss. He was knocked around by Late 20th, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings. Dead Ball Era was unable to claim the lead after NL Pre WWII went ahead in the 2nd inning scoring one runner. Klein doubled. After an out was recorded, Gabby Hartnett came to the plate and would ground out scoring the run. Dead Ball Era had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Carl Hubbell(4-3) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Dizzy Dean recorded the save, his 3rd. Walter Johnson(3-3) was hit with the loss. John McGraw was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.' AL Post WWII had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Rod Carew initiated the scoring spurt when he hit a single. George Brett came next and he stroked a single. Mickey Mantle then lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 10th of the season). AL Post WWII finished with 13 hits while NL Post WWII ended up with 7. Jim Palmer(4-3) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Palmer got relief help from Rollie Fingers who gained credit for his 6th save. Warren Spahn(2-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Left Outs came out the victor in the 14th inning. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times. Early Wynn(1-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no runs. Hideo Nomo(1-3) was charged with the loss in relief. He struggled with his control issuing 6 walks in 2 innings. With this win, Left Outs has a 13-17 record. They have been 4-6 lately. Bobby Valentine was unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'
