Reggie Jackson cracked a homer and had 5 RBI as the AL Post WWII ballclub
pulled out a win over the Caribbean Estrellas by a score of 9 to 6 at Yawnef
Park.
AL Post WWII came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th
inning scoring 3 runs using 3 hits. Ted Williams opened up the inning nicely
when he stroked a base-hit. Harmon Killebrew followed and he banged out a
single. After an out was recorded, Jackson came up and he lofted a three-run
'big-fly' (his 8th of the season) making AL Post WWII the victor and
beginning a joyous home town celebration. AL Post WWII had 17 hits for the
game and Caribbean had 14.
The winning pitcher was Rollie Fingers(2-2) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Adolfo Luque(2-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3
innings giving up 8 hits and no walks.

Buck Leonard launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Negro League I Ones
defeated the Late 20th Modern Stars in 12 innings by a score of 6 to 5 at
Black Diamond Pk.
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Negro League I ended
up winning it in the 12th inning. Pop Lloyd lined a single. Lloyd swiped
second base. Oscar Charleston then slapped a base-hit giving Negro League I
the victory as 46,585 happy fans celebrated wildly. This was a game of many
highs and lows for the home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in
all.
Dave Barnhill(3-1) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. The loss was
charged to Goose Gossage(0-2) in relief. He gave up 2 runs in 2 innings and
saw his ERA jump from 4.05 to 5.19.

Radbourn(3-3) pitched a solid game. He went 9 innings allowing 12 hits and no
walks improving his ERA from 3.83 to 3.55. Old Timers had a total of 11 hits
for the game.
Ed Walsh(3-5) was charged with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 8 runs in 5 innings.

First baseman Saduharu Oh hit a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Japanese League
HOF Players won a dandy at Nintendo Field over the Left Outs Leftovers, 8 to
7.
Japanese League won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk. Isao Harimoto stepped up to the plate and he
delivered a single. Harimoto took second on the throw. Katsuya Nomura then
drew a walk to load the bases. Oh stepped in and he hit a deep fly making
Japanese League the winners and sending the 30,534 fans home happy. This was
the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.
The victory went to Eiji Sawamura(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Bob Lemon(0-1) was the loser in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 3 hits in 1
and 1/3 innings.

Center fielder Kiki Cuyler had 3 base hits as the NL Pre WWII club staged a
dramatic comeback over the Negro League II Twos by a score of 8 to 7 at
Shadowball Stadium.
NL Pre WWII put a big number on the board in the top of the 9th inning, which
proved too much for Negro League II to overcome as they erupted for 7 runs on
4 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Frankie Frisch who deflated the
mood of the partisan fans when he tripled plating all three baserunners. NL
Pre WWII rapped out 12 hits for the night.
Dizzy Dean(3-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Pete Alexander
recorded his 1st save. Max Manning(4-3) was hit with the loss in relief.
Leo Durochure was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last
at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there?
You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what
makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over
'til its over.'

First baseman Lou Gehrig blasted a homerun at Big League Field as the AL Pre
WWII team came back dramatically to top the NL Post WWII club by the score of
6 to 5.
AL Pre WWII won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs
on 3 hits. Babe Ruth led off and started the attack as he doubled. After an
out was recorded, Al Simmons came to the plate and laced a base-hit which
scored a run. Gehrig then drew a walk. Earl Averill was next to the plate,
but was promptly struck out. Bill Dickey stepped into the box and doubled
scoring the final run of the inning. AL Pre WWII had 14 hits for the night
while NL Post WWII had 8.
Carl Mays(2-4) allowed 5 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Mays
got help from Stan Coveleski who earned his 2nd save. Gaylord Perry(2-2)
took the loss in relief. He gave up 1 hit and no walks without retiring a
batter.
Tommy Lasorda was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough
loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a
terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to
lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin'
on us tonight'

Turn of Century fell behind quickly as the FOFC offense came through in the
first inning when they scored 2 runs on 3 hits. Turn of Century was out-hit
by FOFC, 17 hits to 12.
The win was credited to John Williams(4-0) who went 7 innings allowing 5 runs.
