Our fans didn't like the home tie and I was invited by them to a supporters' club meeting to explain the poor result. I went and I told them I thought the team (except Jack Berger) played well, but were unlucky and, also, the opposition were no slouches at all and they closed us down very well. I also urged them to take heart from great style in which we scored our equalizer and they agreed that was the kind of play they wanted to see from the team. But they said they just wanted to see it more often...

My three guys all played in Holland's opening game at the Olympics. Keeper and Holland captain Jan Spronck, left winger Paul van Dijk and right winger Marc Berger all had an average game in the 0:0 draw vs Italy (who played typical Italian catenaccio, after they had a man sent off early).
