2019 GHSA 6-7A State Swim Meet - FINALS RESULTS

Bailey

Bailey didn't have a swim in finals, but the South Forsyth girls finished 3rd in the state!!!

Bear

#1 Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:45.67) - This relay was the top seed in the first heat, and it was exciting. They had a lead in the back, lost it bad in the breast, then the flyer closed the gap but Bear entered the water in 3rd place...he was able to basically duplicate his 22.5 split from prelims and he won the heat.

#3 Boys 200 Yard Freestyle - (1:48.00) - Bear worked extremely hard in this one, trying to go faster, but it looked labored and he really wasn't going anywhere. This time Andy filmed Bear and noted that he was really picking his head and chest up out of the water creating a significant amount of drag, so much that he was forced to alter his kick to get over the wave of water he was creating, and that altered kick created more drag. It's the classic swimming dichotomy, you can work twice as hard and it creates 4x the drag and ultimately you swim slower. It's not always about power in swimming. Bear finished in 1:48.62

#15 Boys 500 Yard Freestyle - (4:54.19) - - Before the 500, Andy sent Bear the video he made along with some simple instructions. And from the start of the race it was obvious Bear was trying to make the adjustment. He was able to hold the more efficient stroke for about 225 yards, then he began to try and work harder and he fell back into some bad habits. However, he did significantly improve on his seed time, posting a 4:48.84. This swim moved him from 29th to 19th overall, still not close to his PB, but a step in the right direction. Now he really needs to work on cleaning up that technique before Sectionals in March.
