TUCKER AT THE MID-POINT 2012: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

THE GOOD
  • Shaun Duncan Has Been The Solution--First in the league in yards per attempt, tied for first in TD passes, 2nd in passer rating, 1st in TD Percentage. There's really not much more that I can say about the league's most egocentric player. In just his third season, Duncan has so far put up elite QB numbers.
  • Take Off The Shackles--R.J. Ellard has been ridiculous in the 4 1/2 games he has played. He has averaged 6.22 yards per carry, and his 124.4 rushing yards per game is better then even Ray-Ray. If this guy could stay healthy, he'd be considered one of the top backs in the league.
  • Late Bloomer--Before coming to Tucker last year, Tyrus Shaye was mostly a punch line. He was solid last year, and he's been pretty much brilliant this year. He has already broken the Tucker team record for TD catches, and if he can stay healthy, appears very likely to break the league record in that same category.
  • Surprising Defense--The defensive personnel didn't change very much from last year, but the performance sure has. This crew has allowed the 5th-fewest points in the league. Of special note has been new starter at WLB, Leland Crabb, who has 47 tackles and 2 interceptions.
  • Off The Scrap Heap--Due to an injury to our starter, we picked up John Crouch to start at center in the interim, and he has been great, with a 41.4 KRB Pct, and 0 sacks allowed in 4 starts. He may just keep the job.
  • Healthy As Horses--Yeah, we've had our dings here and there, but to be at Week 9 with no one any worse than Questionable sure is nice.

THE BAD
  • Harris Isn't Ready--Harris Douglas was inserted into the starting lineup at the beginning of the year, but he hasn't lived up to the billing, and got demoted to WR3 for this past week's game.
  • Playing Down To The Competition--We've outscored teams with winning records 106-58, but have struggled against teams with losing records. Duncan in particular has been a primary culprit. He's put up QB ratings of 139.67, 107.08, 107.92, and 126.56 in the four games against winning teams, but 69.11, 66.07, and 92.33 in the games against teams with losing records.

THE UGLY
  • Can We Stop Somebody On Third Down???--We're the third-worst in the league in stopping third down conversions, contributing heavily to us being 25th in time of possession.

All in all, I would have been happy to be 5-3 at this point. Looking down the road, our schedule looks a good bit easier than it before the season started, although Orlando and Conyers could still be dangerous. We hope to go 2-0 against Boulder and Anaheim, 3-1 against Orlando and Conyers, and get a 1-1 split against Bordeaux and Fairbanks. A 13-3 finish would probably be enough to get us home field advantage for the duration of the Playoffs.
