George Bell hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI as the Toronto Blue Jays
topped the Cleveland Indians in 10 innings by a score of 9 to 6 at MUNICIPAL
STADIUM.
The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. Toronto came out the victor in
the 10th inning. Ernie Whitt led off and he lined a single. Rance Mulliniks
came next and he stroked a single. After an out was recorded, Damaso Garcia
came up and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Len Matuszek was
up next and he drew a walk which scored a run. Tony Fernandez was next to
the plate, but was promptly struck out. Lou Thornton continued the rally and
laced a single which was good for two more runs. Thornton took second on the
throw. Toronto rapped out 15 hits for the afternoon.
Dennis Lamp(6-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Ramon
Romero(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. Toronto scored big getting 3
runs off him in 2 and 2/3 innings.

In a close game it was the Baltimore Orioles 4, the Oakland A's 2 at OAKLAND
COLISEUM.
Baltimore came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 8th inning
scoring 2 runs using 3 hits. Eddie Murray got things going when he singled.
After an out was recorded, Mike Young stepped up to the plate and he doubled
scoring a run. Gary Roenicke then smacked a single scoring the final run of
the inning. Baltimore totaled 8 on the afternoon.
The win went to Sammy Stewart(4-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Nate Snell
got the save, his 5th. The losing pitcher was Tommy John(1-3). He gave up 8
hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.

First baseman Ken Phelps blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Seattle
Mariners outscored the New York Yankees 8 to 5.
Phelps provided much of the offense. He blasted a two-run home run in the 3rd
inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 4th of the season) in
the 6th inning. Seattle finished with 9 hits while New York ended up with 5.
Ed Vande Berg(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings and allowing
1 run. Phil Niekro(4-3) was given the loss. He was not very effective,
surrendering 6 runs in 5 innings.

Roger Clemens took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and Rich Gedman connected
with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI at ARLINGTON STADIUM as the Boston Red Sox
beat the Texas Rangers by the count of 4 to 2.
Clemens(5-0) pitched well for Boston in their victory. He surrendered 4 hits
and 2 walks in 6 innings. The right-handed Clemens had his no-hit bid broken
up by Toby Harrah who homered with two outs in the 6th inning. For the game
Boston out-hit Texas 8 to 5.
Clemens was helped out by Bob Stanley who recorded his 6th save. Dickie
Noles(1-3) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 8 hits in 9 innings.
