We own 2, 3, 5, 7 in the third round. I take a look at our interview sheet for the offensive line and see there are still 14 guys left - of the 14 we interviewed. We decide to try and trade down into the middle of the round and pick up some extra day 2 picks (you know, for the defense, yo!)

We trade down to picks 13, 14, 15, 15 and pick up two more 4ths, and one more pick each in rounds 5-7.

We now have 32 picks.

66. Green Bay - Witt, Matthew, G, Georgia Tech
67. Lackawanna - Bangs, Jeff, RB, West Virginia
68. Atlanta - Ramon, Robbie, CB, West Virginia
69. Jacksonville - Hines, Deion, OLB, Jacksonville State
70. Pittsburgh - Mason, Lionel, CB, Southern Utah
71. New Jersey M - Schelling, Mitchell, WR, Army
72. Jupiter - Thomason, Cornell, RB, South Dakota
73. Detroit - Dotson, Dennis, T, Illinois
74. Arizona - Manderville, Kim, RB, UCLA
75. Tennessee - Newhart, Mike, DT, Northwestern
76. New Jersey P - Patchet, Orlando, C, Nevada - Las Vegas

We are now mid round 3 and there are still a ton of 5.0+ players on the board.

We actually don't see much that we like, so we trade down even more and pick up some more picks. Yes, this is minutae for the reader - my apologies.

Anyway...let's see who gets picked, then we'll review our stable of picks and then we resolve to pick SOMEONE.

77. Charleston - Schacht, Les, TE, Iowa
78. Cincinnati - Bernstein, Marshall, OLB, Boston College
79. Cleveland - Purslow, Claude, CB, Sacramento State
80. Denver - Tsang, Carlton, CB, Auburn
81. New Orleans - Murray, Lincoln, OLB, Southern Methodist
82. Fall River - Hicks, Floyd, DT, Miami, Florida
83. Philadelphia - Augustson, Chris, CB, Ohio State
84. New Jersey M - Marsh, Charlie, WR, Washington State

I had been toying with Murray - but he is a defensive player and I don't want to take any of those neanerthals prior to round 5. Of course, the talent is thinning quickly here...so we might bend the rules a bit at some point.

85. White Rock - Greene, Lance, T, Buffalo

We didn't interview Greene, because he was too highly rated - but he has good LT passblocking bars (we are pretending that blindside matters, etc...).

86. Tampa Bay - Kohl, Preston, T, Temple
87. Houston - Haslett, Eric, ILB, Arkansas

We couldn't decide between Kohl - a guy we accidently scouted because he was rated too high - and the guy we are going to take now. I think we got the better guy, long term. We didn't scout him - but the pickings at T are purdy slim.

88. White Rock - Gustafson, Les, T, Oklahoma State

With Keene about to pick with a QB need, we decide to grab some insurance here and take the only other QB we really liked.

89. White Rock - McElroy, Dan, QB, Rutgers

His secondary skills aren't as strong, but he has some sense rush abilities and we don't want to be completely screwed if our number one choice falls on his face.

90. Keene - Middleton, Wes, TE, North Carolina State

There are no more offensive players to be see for a while, so we trade out.

91. Atlanta - Poston, Alan, RB, Iowa
92. Kansas City - Archibald, Erik, T, Oklahoma
93. Carolina - Tafoya, Matthew, CB, Evansville
94. San Diego - LaFleur, Nate, T, Notre Dame
95. Calverton - Floyd, Darren, FB, Houston
96. South Carolina - Barker, Roderick, CB, Rutgers

Well shit. The one FB we wanted gets scooped up by Calverton just two picks before we can choose. That sucks. More single back will cure that. Here are the picks we have for the rest of the draft:

4th round: 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 19, 21, 23, 24, 27

Day 2 (aka build a defense)

5th round: 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 14
6th round: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 13, 14, 18
7th round: 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 12

So 30+ picks and then we go crazy in UDFA.

We grab the third man in our wide open offense:

97. White Rock - Heiden, O.J., WR, Pittsburgh
98. San Diego - Hatcher, Larry, DE, Colgate

We get our starting TE - the only one we interviewed and the best one available.

99. White Rock - Granger, Jerald, TE, Tulsa

We fill out our offensive line.

100. White Rock - Prescott, Ike, T, Virginia
101. White Rock - Ramos, Lance, G, Louisiana State
102. Buffalo - Rasmussen, Reuben, TE, Notre Dame
103. White Rock - Seignious, Jake, G, Georgia
104. Detroit - Connell, Ray, CB, Memphis
105. White Rock - Malone, Vinny, G, Syracuse
106. Tennessee - Coleman, Peter, G, Arkansas
107. New Jersey P - Lawless, Derek, RB, Boston College
108. New Jersey M - Barlow, Fernando, DE, Washington State
109. Jupiter - Youngblood, Randal, WR, Virginia Tech
110. Green Bay - McDaniel, Jim, S, Morehead State
111. Jacksonville - Eskridge, Lewis, RB, The Citadel
112. New Orleans - Jaramillo, Ike, CB, North Carolina State
113. Fall River - Sweeney, Skip, OLB, Hawaii
114. Philadelphia - Kinney, Lee, S, Washington

We now have 5 picks left in this round and are really having a hard time finding offensive players to draft. The shine is off the challenge a bit as we muddle through replacement-level players, looking for diamonds that will never amount to much.

115. White Rock - Gibson, Jon, RB, Tennessee
116. Denver - Snyder, Artie, DE, Connecticut
117. White Rock - Norris, Vincent, G, Georgia Tech
118. Houston - Hutchins, Barry, CB, Minnesota
119. White Rock - Nicholson, Mitchell, WR, Nevada - Las Vegas
120. White Rock - McKenzie, Rod, C, Air Force

121. Keene - Brown, Kenneth, DT, Syracuse
122. Tampa Bay - Shields, Kenyon, WR, Arizona
123. White Rock - Gillespie, Wayne, RB, Defiance
124. Carolina - Horiszny, Morris, TE, Northwestern St., La.
125. Kansas City - Kelly, Bubba, CB, Mississippi State
126. San Diego - Seely, Dean, OLB, Mississippi
127. Calverton - Aguayo, Dixon, OLB, Idaho State
128. South Carolina - Gaines, Timothy, DT, Wisconsin

Okay - now we are on to the 5th round and we start looking at defense. Here is our position count so far:

QB - 2, RB - 3, WR - 4, TE - 1, FB - 0, C - 1, G - 4, T - 3

18 picks. No conflicts!
