Yup, TEW completely assumes the fictionalized nature of wrestling as it's premise - you're the booker, trying to create stars, get people to come to your shows, and increase your popularity in various regions. And yes, a "tainted" victory doesn't hurt the momentum of a wrestler as much as a clean loss would.
And to be picky and clarify, this dynasty is about WCCW, not WCW. WCCW was a promotion based in Texas that seemed to be on the verge of national expanison (they had high production values, were one of the earliest promotions to use theme music, video packages, and pre-taped vignettes, and they had a ton of talent). Then everyone died, and the promotion went out of business (that's only a slight exageration). The goal of this game is to keep everyone alive and in fact, go national (it's still possible that wrestlers drop dead, and in fact, certain wrestlers have hidden stats for drug use - I'm sure David and Kerry do.) I can't have as much bad luck as they did though.
