Gold Grand Prix Meet 1 - Cherokee Aquatic Center - 10/4

The first of the 4 Grand Prix meets start Saturday, and I have a few things that have changed since the post above. First, the meets will now be sanctioned by USA Swimming, so the times will be official. However, in an effort to save money, the electronic timing systems won't be used. Instead there will be 3 hand held watches in each lane that will be averaged to determine time (assuming they can get enough volenteers to be timers). Because the timing system won't be used, I'll have no race time feedback duriing the meet, and potentially will have to wait several days to get their actual results, which will be very frustrating.

Additionally, the swimmers will be classified by their age on October 4th. This really hurts the twins, as there are a number of very strong 12 year olds that will be aging up before the end of the season, but will get to swim as 12 year olds for the entire Grand Prix series. Even with the ruling on age, I expect Bailey and Bear will both finish in the top 5 for their age group.

Brett is also going to swim the Grand Prix series. The schedule was adjusted so it wouldn't interfere with high school meets, so he decided to do it.

These events are about a combination of time and place finish, as prizes will be awarded for top finishers in each age group, but ultimately you won't know your place until all 4 events have been completed.
