Eagle, yes there have and it is challenging to run/play a game with that mechanic. It really puts a burden on the moderator to find ways to share some kind of information so the players can piece stuff together.
Example - you have a role that can scan the dead. What happens if that role is lynched D1? No info the whole game? Not much fun ...
Peregrine did a really nice job with this in an early game (something about a river?), other attempts haven't worked as well in my opinion.
