Why would NBC being in change Notre Dame's decision? It just adds inventory for NBC and they'd pair it with ND as a double-header.

All this conference bingo is simply rearranging deck chairs during this transitory phase. The idea is not to get left out. Notre Dame will never be left out. If this weren't a transition, the Big Ten and SEC would already have eaten all the edible meals out there.

The big question is what happens when the whole FBS ship hits the iceberg of player union/revenue sharing. How do players get paid and distributed to teams? What brands are in and what brands are out?

For three of the mid-major conferences (MAC, SB, CUSA), media rights are less than one million per school per season. The Mountain West and AAC are in the mid-single digits, with almost no hope of significant increases. The big question is what happens to the ACC/Pac 12/Big 12 with the next contracts. That will help determine the shape of things post-iceberg. How many schools get to compete in the organized league when major-league college football breaks away from the NCAA?

We seem to be a long way from this happening, but this transitional phase is going to lead to a lot of unhappy schools and players and lawsuits.
