I don't think the problem is that these two don't know each other. I've done something in basketball where they are a team and are forced to rely on each other, like BYU is suggesting.

I think this idea that people don't get along because they don't know each other is a naive and pat explanation perpetrated upon us. First impressions are not only lasting, but often correct. Short of a change in outlook by one of the players, and in this case we'd all hope it would be Garett, I don't see these two every liking each other.

Hopefully you build up some trust between the two. But no matter what I think you do set clear boundaries of what is OK or not. I would be frank with them and explain that if they can't get at least tolerate each other it's going to hurt them, as their learning and PT will suffer, and it's going to hurt the team. While you set the goal of tolerate to them, I would, of course, aim much higher.
