I did not find a link on the net for this data. A human source told me:
“Early on I believe it did mean something ( before the latest movies ), and it was told in the KOTOR game. I believe the four colors were:
Red: Sith
Blue: Jedi Guardian - Defenders of the Republic
Yellow: Jedi Sentinel - Finds deceit and corruption, a balance of physical and mental
Green: Jedi Consular - Knowledge and Negotiation
From what I've read, the Sith chose red because the only mines they had access too had red force crystals. And while the Jedi had more colors to choose from, later on their supply dwindled down to only green and blue (if they could be found at all) after the Empire came into power. Purple wasn't officially a force crystal color, but it was requested by Samuel L. Jackson to Lucas and he was given a different colored lightsaber in the movie.”
I looked at the KOTOR game and it does reflect the above.
