Group 4
Week 7
Iona- 82, Kent St.- 54
Kennesaw St.- 69, Louisiana-Lafayette- 63
Kansas- 72, Loyola Marymount- 67
The big upset is Kennesaw getting their first win over Louisiana-Lafayette. Kennesaw was 5 of 6 from the free throw line in the last minute to seal the win. Kansas played by far their closest game of the tournament, as Loyola had as big as an 8 point lead at times. Iona got 30 from Lamont Jones, as that makes 30+ point game #3 for Mr. Jones in the tournament.
Week 8
Kansas- 59, Louisiana-Lafayette- 51
Kent St.- 74, Loyola Marymount- 47
Iona- 83, Kennesaw St.- 50
To say that the Jayhawks have put it into cruise control is an understatement. Lafayette led by as many as 15 in the first half and led 28-19 at halftime. Bill Self's halftime speech consisted of words never before heard. I understand thanks to Selfs halftime speech, a new dictionary is in the works. And Kent St.... well can we say too little too late? They finally played the way they should have been playing.
Week 9
Loyola Marymount- 57, Kennesaw St.- 43
Iona- 87, Louisiana-Lafayette- 57
Kansas- 71, Kent St.- 56
The shocker in this one is that Lamont Jones scored only 19.. yes, 19 points in Ionas blowout win over Louisiana-Lafayette. Kansas shot 47.4% to get by Kent St.
-----------------------------
Standings after Week 9:
Kansas 9-0 (+184)
Iona 6-3 (+131)
Loyola Marymount 5-4 (-22)
Louisiana-Lafayette 4-5 (-61)
Kent St. 2-7 (-68)
Kennesaw St. 1-8 (-164)
Week 10 Schedule:
Kansas @ Iona
Kennesaw St. @ Kent St.
Louisiana-Lafayette @ Loyola Marymount
Kansas has already clinched the group, and with a win over Iona in Week 10 will have a very, very good chance to get the #1 seed in the round of 128. Iona can really solidify the #2 spot in the group with a win. Loyola Marymount can clinch the third seed in this group with a win over Louisiana-Lafayette. Still a lot to play for in this group, Kent St. and Kennesaw St. are playing for pride.
