Berry Update
You may recall from earlier posts that the new coach, Astrid, had to handle the team with season without an assistant coach. This was a major hurtle and I honestly believe one of the biggest contributors to the problems early in the season. As a quick recap - The Berry swim team would sign GAs on a 2 year cycle, and the GA that they signed in 2021 wasn't brought back after the first year. This left the team in an awkward situation. They were off schedule and finding someone to come in on a 1 year agreement wasn't enticing to potential replacements (not sure why they didn't just start another 2 year window, but apparently that wasn't an option).
Now it appears that Berry is looking to bring on a full time assistant, and guess who was offered the job? Yep, Astrid approached Bear and told him that if he wanted the job it was his. He's intrigued, but he admits it would be odd. First, he would be a coach and not allowed to fraternize with his former teammates, and the hanging out with his buds is what he enjoyed most about swimming. Second, he's only looking to take a year off to study for the MCAT, and while coaching my provide a nice job to do that - it doesn't help his resume, and ultimately it doesn't help Berry if he quits the role after just 1 year.
He's not likely to take the job, but he's not shutting the door on it completely either.
