Before 268 appreciative supporters at Victoriarena, we secured promotion to the Luxembourg National Division for next season with our 3-0 victory over Mamer.
Mamer brought a side that was much stronger than the one we faced at their grounds. Naby Twimumu, their striker, was available, and they signed a talented youngster from Dudelange named Kevin Grisius during the January transfer window.
The match was scoreless until 34 minutes, when Andy Rakic headed a cross from Carlos Ferreira into the path of a streaking Laurent Schiltz, who put it past the Mamer keeper. Four minutes later, Ferreira brought in a goal kick from Jeff Oster and knocked it ahead for Jeremy Laroche to drive home.
The third goal was Ferreira-to-Laroche again, one of the cleanest, crispest goals we've had all season.
Oster's clean sheet was his 11th of the season.
Laroche's two goals got the pundits back on his bandwagon about a Luxembourg selection, and Schiltz's goal brought him within two of the league's scoring lead, but the hero of the hour was Carlos Ferreira, who richly deserved the Man of the Match selection. His skill with the ball was instrumental in all three of our goals; we simply aren't the same team without him on the pitch.
Next, we travel to Wiltz for a Luxembourg Cup tie, and then there are four more Promotion Division fixtures remaining.
