Our second series of the First Round is complete, and it is the New York Yankees/Seattle series. Here's a recap

Game 1

Code:
Seattle- 010 010 000 2 11 0 NY Yankees- 021 000 23X 8 17 0

The teams combined for 28 hits and the Yankees broke open a close game with 5 runs in their last 2 at-bats. Hideki Matsui was 3-4 with 3 RBIs in the win, while Bryan LaHair was 2-5 with an RBI for the Mariners.

Game 2

Code:
Seattle- 001 000 001 2 8 0 NY Yankees- 000 230 00X 6 11 0

The Yankees lost 2 players to injury this game, as starting pitcher Ian Kennedy left in the 3rd inning, and Derek Jeter left in the 5th. Joba Chamberlain came on in relief for Kennedy and pitched a brilliant 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball, giving up just 4 hits while he was in. The Yankees this time got their runs in the middle innings, as Cody Random and Hideki Matsui had 3 RBIs a piece, and Jose Vidro was 1-2 with a walk and a sacrifice and a double for the Mariners in a losing effort.

WP: Joba Chamberlain
LP: Felix Hernandez

Game 3

Code:
NY Yankees- 001 000 030 4 11 0 Seattle- 010 000 000 1 10 2

Another excellent effort from a long reliever/spot starter for the Yankees, as Carl Pavano left after 4 innings due to short stamina, and Dan Giese finished it off for the Yankees, going the next 5 innings as all Seattle could muster was a 2nd inning homer. The Yankees had 4 hits in the 8th inning, which put the game and the series away for the Bronx Bombers. Seattle, in an effort to stay alive, used 5 pinch hitters in the 9th inning! Keep in mind the rule that everybody has to play a game in each series, so the Mariners had some key players on the bench to start this one.

WP: Dan Giese
LP: R.A. Dickey

So the Yankees are the 2nd team to sweep their First Round series (Boston was the other, go figure), and will take on the LA Dodgers/St. Louis winner in the Quarterfinals.
