Some of you might remember me mentioning the original comment, in the context of how Witcher was an impressive feat & no question a fantastic game ... but that it only got 4th or 5th most play time from me even in the release year. That there was somehow less engagement/enjoyment in actually playing it than I'd expect from something that I was calling "maybe best game ever".

FWIW, that's the comparison he made after several days with it.

That seems to scan with most of what I'm reading about the game. Most people seem to feel like the environment is so real and breathtaking that it really makes the "social" aspects (mainly NPC interaction) look completely backward in comparison - as if the game has no soul.
