Mike Scioscia collected 2 extra-base hits as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated
the Chicago Cubs 8 to 3 at WRIGLEY FIELD.
Los Angeles took the lead for good in the 7th inning scoring 2 runners on 2
hits. Los Angeles rapped out 12 hits for the night.
Tom Niedenfuer(4-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Rick
Sutcliffe(2-2) was the loser. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 6 walks
in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Bill Doran cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Dave Smith closed it out for
Houston at OLYMPIC STADIUM as the Houston Astros beat the Montreal Expos 10
to 4.
Doran had a good evening at the plate. He cleared the fences for a two-run
home run in the 6th inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 3rd of the
season) in the 8th inning and doubled knocking in a run in the 9th inning.
Smith was perfect in relief and got the save, his 7th.
The winning pitcher was Mike Scott(2-1) who allowed 3 runs in 5 innings. Bill
Laskey(1-1) was hit with the loss. He was touched for 9 hits and 5 walks in
5 and 1/3 innings.

Wayne Krenchicki smacked 2 homeruns as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the
Philadelphia Phillies in 10 innings by a score of 6 to 5 at VETERANS
STADIUM.
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Cincinnati won the
hard fought contest in the 10th inning. Dave Parker blasted a solo shot (his
5th of the season). Cincinnati had a total of 9 hits for the game.
John Franco(3-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Dave
Rucker(0-2) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 hit and 1 walk in 1
inning.

The San Francisco Giants toppled the Pittsburgh Pirates by a 6 to 2 score at
THREE RIVERS STADIUM.
San Francisco set the tone of the game in the first inning when they tallied 4
runs on 4 hits. That was all the runs Vida Blue(2-3) needed. San Francisco
banged out 8 on the night.
Mark Davis gained credit for his 8th save. Jose Deleon(1-3) absorbed the loss.
He gave up 7 hits and 6 walks in 7 innings.

Willie McGee had 3 base hits and Kurt Kepshire pitched 9 strong innings as the
St. Louis Cardinals outscored the San Diego Padres 2 to 0.
Kepshire(2-2) came through with a virtuoso performance against the San Diego
hitters. He surrendered only 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings reducing his
ERA from 3.46 to 2.57. San Diego threatened in the 9th but St. Louis was
able to put down the rally.
Dave Dravecky(2-1) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 5
innings. Dick Williams was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really
hurts. If our guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have
won that one. That is what really ticks me off!'
