Eddie Murray delivered a solo blast (his 4th of the season) giving Baltimore the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Baltimore totaled 9 on the afternoon. Oakland fell behind quickly as the Boston offense came through in the first inning scoring a single run utilizing 3 base hits. Boston had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings. The win was credited to Roger Clemens(4-0) who went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs. Clemens got relief help from Tim Lollar who gained credit for his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was Steve McCatty(1-4). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 9 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings. Burns(2-3) gave Chicago a solid outing. He surrendered only 7 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 5.25 to 4.40. Chicago had a total of 12 hits for the game. Frank Tanana(3-2) was hit with the loss. He was unable to control the Chicago offense and allowed 12 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Burns offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Phil Niekro(4-1) finally bested his Kansas City opposite, Bud Black(3-3), by the score of 3 to 0. Niekro put on a good performance. He gave up just 2 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.66 to 3.18. Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning. Dave Righetti earned his 11th save. Black was given the loss. He pitched 9 innings giving up 8 hits and 2 walks. Milwaukee scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning when they tallied 4 runs on 5 hits. Milwaukee had 11 hits overall, while California had 7. Ted Higuera(3-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 2 runs. Rollie Fingers earned the save, his 1st. Mike Witt(2-4) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 9 hits and no walks. Texas scored 2 runs in the 4th inning. Toby Harrah led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk. O'Brien was next and he doubled. Larry Parrish followed, but he was set down on strikes. After another out, Ward swiped second base. Bobby Jones stepped into the box and delivered a base-hit scoring two baserunners. Cleveland had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Burt Hooton(3-2) allowed 2 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Dave Schmidt recorded the save, his 3rd. Don Schulze(1-4) was the loser. The Toronto Blue Jays won by the slimmest of margins, 7 to 6. Toronto won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 8th inning with 2 runs using 3 hits. Rance Mulliniks led off and he doubled. Damaso Garcia came next and he tripled plating a run. After an out was recorded, Tony Fernandez came up and he laced a single scoring the final run of the inning. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times. Bill Caudill(1-0) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Edwin Nunez(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 2/3 innings.
