Steve Victory JOURNAL – ACT Final Four 2014

Virginia sports a 19-14 record heading into the ACT semifinals. ‘Bama comes in with a 22-10 mark (it’s looking better every game!). The two teams fight and scratch for 40 hard minutes before the Crimson Tide comes out on top by 2 points, 63-61.

Jason Rude (14 points) and Waitari Condill (14 points) lead the scoring. Michael Bliss (12 points) and Brett Fischer (11 points) get most of their scoring at the free-throw line. Alabama is going to the ACT championship game!! Their opponent: none other than SEC rival Arkansas, who cruised past Xavier 83-65.

The all-SEC final might not garner a lot of national attention but it’s a great match-up for fans of the league (and channel surfers who just want to watch a hard-fought basketball game). Alabama and Arkansas fans don’t necessarily like each other. Both teams won one game against the other during the regular season and both felt snubbed by the NCT selection committee when the berths were announced (Arkansas had a 20-10 record at the time).

Victory wants to cut the nets down at Madison Square Garden so badly he can taste it. So what if it’s “just the ACT”? A win in the championship will vindicate what he’s been doing with the Crimson Tide the past 4-5 seasons and prove a great springboard into next winter. “There’s nothing like winning your last game of the season,” he tells the press on the eve of the showdown. “This is the biggest game of my career to date.”
