I've had great success with my 4kw off-grid solar at our cottage, so we looked into a grid-tie system for home this summer. Despite a few rebates available the ROI was not attractive enough to pull the trigger just yet.

The proposed system was 11kw which after rebates was 19k. Our electric company doesn't just do a 1:1 offset, but rather they buy back excess power at about 50% what they charge for power consumed. I don't know where I put my calculations but it looked like we would need about 15 years to break even, give or take a year or two based on rate changes.

We'll probably check in again in a year or two to see if any variables have meaningfully changed.
