Steve Victory JOURNAL - Record-Keeping
Just for the record, a few notes on Victory’s second season at State (2022-23). Pretty uneventful overall, therefore I skipped over it for the most part during the “flashbacks.” The Pack went 12-19 and of course didn’t make the post-season. They were ranked as high as #15 early on but tanked during the ACC campaign (5-11). Injuries played somewhat of a role — Jerry Williams got hurt this season as well (missing 4-5 months). Rogers Gravitt, the reigning ACC player of the year, missed some time with ailments...
Victory did get the fourth-best recruiting class in the nation: players like PF Toni Zupic, SG Michael Stokes and SF Jalen Hemphill (#13 in the nation!).
State beat Virginia on the first night of the ACC tournament (play in game) but then got drilled by Maryland 97-46 in the quarterfinals. Uggg...
Kansas knocked off Colorado (!!) and Providence in the Final Four to win the 2023 NCT. Texas A&M claimed the ACT title over Victory’s former SoCon rival Citadel. Nice year for the Big 12...
OK, just wanted to get that info on the record for folks keeping track (anyone other than me?)... Now, catching back up to 2024-25 — a memorable year for Mr. Victory and company...
