Re: New basketball coaches

N.C. State has hired two new assistant basketball coaches.

Jerell Amaya, 35, a graduate of Auburn University, will be Steve Victory’s new lead assistant coach. Amaya takes over for Jeff Wilt, who resigned after two seasons to take over at George Mason University.

Diego Cross will replace Bill Young, whose contract was not renewed with the University, as the third assistant. Cross, 55, is a graduate of Arkansas-Little Rock.

“Both coaches bring with them a great knowledge of the game,” NCSU head coach Steve Victory said. “I remember coaching against Jerell when I was at Alabama, and he was one heck of a defensive player. Cross is a solid recruiter and great evaluator of talent. We look forward to what they can add to the program.

“Oh yeah, and sorry to George Mason fans about calling them the Giraffes. Good luck to the Generals, and their new coach Jeff Wilt.”
