My honest, albeit less than crystal clear, answer would be that it probably depends upon what you like about those games, as in what draws you to them.
If it's the ability to get yourself into the RP aspect of them, like with D&D, then it's probably just a matter of what you need for immersion. I play my Bethesda game characters very true to how I perceive the character, not just what's most expedient at the moment (drives my son crazy when I use that logic in
Fallout) so that helps me a lot.
