This was exactly it. Damn near every one of my friends is a Giants fan and none of them had a problem with benching Eli in a lost season. The backlash was all because of Geno.
It was completely moronic of the front office to bring in, as the backup, a guy who had already failed with the team you share a stadium with. And the hatred of Geno locally wasn't even just for the on field struggles which made the whole thing even dumber.
