If Fernandez thought his decision was going to hurt the Mexican ChampCar community he's sadly mistaken..... Herdez just announced they will add a second car, possibly with another Mexican driving it....

HERDEZ COMPETITION TO ANNOUNCE SECOND CHAMP CAR DRIVER FOR 2004
INDIANAPOLIS (March 12, 2004) - Herdez Competition expanded its effort in the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford to a two-car operation in 2003 and was rewarded with a stellar season in which the team finished sixth in the driver standings. Second-year driver Mario Dominguez became a weekly contender in the Champ Car battles and the team claimed its first ever race sweep when Dominguez and Roberto Moreno finished 1-2 in Miami.
Buoyed by that success, the Herdez team announced Friday that it has chosen its second driver and will renew its attack on the Champ Car World Series title with a two-car effort in 2004. The team, which has won Champ Car races in each of the last two seasons, confirmed Friday that it will make its official driver and sponsor announcement early next week.

“We were satisfied with our results last season, however we have been expanded our program over the winter and we expect to do very well with the program we have built for 2004,” said Herdez Competition Managing Director, Keith Wiggins. We remain committed to Champ Car and are very eager to get the season started at Long Beach.

The Herdez squad had its best-ever Champ Car season in 2003, scoring five podium finishes with Dominguez and Moreno. The team also gave Roberto Gonzalez a one-off chance in Mexico City as a teammate to Dominguez where the rookie scored his first-ever top-10 finish.
