High School Meet v. Central - RESULTS

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bailey

# 4 Girl Open 200 Free NT - Bailey swam well in this one, especially if you consider she swam about 6500 yards in a hard practice about an hour before the meet, and she swam a fly relay leg about 5 minutes before this race. She finished with a 2:08.35, which is only about a second off the state cut, and it's faster than she's swum this race at both of the year round meets this season.

# 12 Girl Open 100 Fly NT - A disappointing 1:04.91, and 3rd place finish...this goes back to Coach Andy adjusting her stroke for a stronger pull.

# 2 Girl Open 200 Medley Relay B 2:01.44Y (fly) - Bailey's relay did really well here. In fact, the B team was pretty much tied with the A team until the very end of the breast. Bailey dove in about half a second behind the A flyer. I really wish Bailey hadn't practiced right before this meet and she was in top form because she would have closed the gap. As it was she swam well, but lost about half a body length. The good news is the B relay got the State Qualifying time (I think the A team is the only one that gets to swim at State, but it is still a nice accomplishment)

# 24 Girl Open 400 Free Relay C 3:57.65Y - this one was interesting. Bailey was on the C relay, with her good friend Maddie (who's earned a spot on the Gold National team). When the wife saw who was on the B and the C relays on Thursday night, she said, I'll be the C beats the B team. And it didn't just beat the B team, it destroyed the B team. Bailey crew swam a 3:55.95 (good enough for a state cut) and they beat the B relay by 8 seconds. In fact, all 4 C relay swimmers beat the fastest B relay girl's split.

Bear

# 3 Boy Open 200 Free NT - Bear finished second to a teammate that will be a rival for him at short course state in the mid and distance freestyles. He did manage to swim a 1:53.13, which is really good under the circumstances. It was also a state cut time.

# 15 Boy Open 500 Free NT - Bear lapped everyone in the pool at least 1 time finishing in a respectable 5:03.10. He actually had to sit on the wall for 2.26 minutes waiting for the last swimmer to finish before he could exit the pool. This swim was also good enough for a state cut.

# 1 Boy Open 200 Medley Relay A 1:43.87Y (backstroke) - opened with a really good back stroke split of 28 low. Much better than he's been doing it. And it might be good enough for him to stay on the stroke through the season. We'll have to wait and see once all the swimmers are with the team. Combined the relay won by 4 seconds and earned a state cut with a time of 1:47.17

# 17 Boy Open 200 Free Relay A 1:37.22Y - Another strong swim by Bear and his relay won by 9 seconds over the B team from South. The team's 1:36.59 was another state cut.

Brett

# 3 Boy Open 200 Free 2:07.14Y - Given Brett's injury and his lack of practice, especially distance practices, the fact he managed to swim a 2:10.88 was remarkable. He swam basically this same time several meets last year when he wasn't injured.

# 21 Boy Open 100 Breast 1:12.50Y - Brett again managed what I consider to be a remarkable swim posting a 1:12.53 just .03 off his best from last year when he was healthy. Actually shocking and it makes me hopeful that once in shape we'll see some time drops.

# 23 Boy Open 400 Free Relay B 4:00.68Y - not a good swim here. He almost missed the race because the meet went much faster than expected. He also wasn't sure when he dove in if it was time for the exchange or if the swimmer coming into the wall was going to flip so he slow to dive in and he dove way too deep. He did swim well once he surfaced. 4:05.96
