Men

E&H - 43
WV Tech - 147

E&H - 46
Milligan - 143

How it Happened
- E&H broke three school records on the day beginning with the 800-meter freestyle. Freshman Brett Breeze (Cumming, Ga.) clocked an 11:42.01 to set the new program-best mark.
- Freshman Blake Madaris (Acworth, Ga.) posted a 5:01.61 in the 400-meter freestyle for a new Emory & Henry record.
- The Wasps finished the day with a new best in the 200-meter freestyle relay. An all-freshman relay of Tariq Gardner (Richmond, Va.), Mack Henningsen (Abingdon, Va.), Ethan Wine (Watauga, Tenn.) and Braxton Justice (Spanisburg, W.Va.) went 1:54.14 to trim .68 seconds off the previous record.

Overview

Brett's 800 Freestyle swim was very conservative. so much so that his opening 50 in this race wasn't as fast as his 50 breast split in the 200 medley relay. So his 11:42.01 is a record but he'll have to do much better if he's hoping to hold that record at the end of the season. After the meet he admitted he was concerned about this race, especially after cramping in the 400 free against Ferrum. He said he had a lot left and probably should have swum a minute or so faster, which would have been a nice swim.

His 200 IM was sort of a personal best...he's never done this event short course meters, but his 2:44.96 is better than his 200 IM long course meters, which is a nice result given he had just finished the 800 free half an hour earlier and he wasn't really given a chance to warm down. He swam the opening fly leg in 34.97 in meters, so that's a huge improvement, in fact, he was only 1.5 or so seconds off of teammate Blake's fly. His back was the weak point in the race and he'll need to go harder and improve that stroke to really see some time drops. But as he rounds into shape that should improve.

His breast leg in the 200 medley relay was a 36.65...again a solid swim for Brett at this stage. And compared to Ethan, the other breaststroker, he was about .15 of a second off Ethan's split from the Ferrum meet. Ethan is more of a sprinter and Brett's stroke is really more of one you'd typically see in the 200, but this will be worth keeping an eye on through the season to see how things might shake out at ODAC championships.
