Three Earn CSC Academic Award

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Three swimmers from Berry's men's swim and dive program earned academic recognition for their work in the classroom as Billy Blood, Ross Valdez, and Bear Breeze each earned Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators (formerly College Sports Information Directors of America). The awards were announced Tuesday afternoon.

In order to earn Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5. In years past, there has also been a true athletic component to the equation; while that component is much more limited than it may have been previously, all still have achieved success in the pool as well.

Valdez achieved an NCAA "B" cut for his time in the 1650 Yard Freestyle at the Southern Athletic Association Championships last month. He was also an SAA Swimmer of the Week during the 2022-23 season. Blood was part of the relay team that set a new SAA Championship record in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The winning time of 1:30.38 was just .01 away from an NCAA "B" cut time. Breeze was part of Berry's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team which placed third at the SAA Championships in 2023.

The trio moves on to the national ballot for potential Acadmic All-America status.
