Jose Mendez was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game as the Caribbean Estrellas beat the NL Pre WWII team by a score
of 5 to 2.
Mendez(1-2) was very good in the win. He didn't allow much, just 7 hits and 2
walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.61 to 3.96. Both teams totaled
7 on the afternoon.
Eppa Rixey(3-1) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 2 walks in 5
and 1/3 innings.

Left fielder Billy Williams connected with a 'big fly' and had 4 RBI at
Shadowball Stadium where the NL Post WWII club beat the Negro League II Twos
8 to 4.
Negro League II was unable to recover after NL Post WWII went ahead in the 2nd
inning scoring one runner using 2 hits. NL Post WWII out-hit Negro League II
for the game, 15 hits to 11.
Bob Gibson(2-1) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Frank
Wickware(1-3) was the loser. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 4 and 1/3
innings of work.
This win by NL Post WWII continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten
games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are 13-8. With the
loss, Negro League II has a record of 4-6 lately, 7-14, worst in the division
overall.

Walter Johnson carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning and George Sisler
cracked a homer as the Dead Ball Era Ghosts defeated the Late 20th Modern
Stars 3 to 2 at Free Agent Field.
Johnson(3-2) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He gave up just 2 hits
and 4 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings. The right-handed Johnson lost his no-hit
bid when Cal Ripken singled with nobody out in the 8th inning. Late 20th
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Johnson got relief help from Three Finger Brown who gained credit for his 2nd
save. Pedro Martinez(0-1) took the loss. 'It was a tough one to lose' said
Bobby Cox 'We'll get them next time out.'
NEGRO LEAGUE I AT AL PRE WWII

Turkey Stearnes slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI at Glory Stadium where the
Negro League I Ones beat the AL Pre WWII ballclub in 11 innings by the score
of 7 to 5.
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Negro League I came
out on top in the 11th inning. Cool Papa Bell opened up the inning nicely
when he doubled. Two outs later Stearnes came to the plate and bombed a
two-run dinger (his 6th of the season). Negro League I and AL Pre WWII each
finished the afternoon with 12 hits.
The win was credited to Bill Foster(2-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing
no runs. Foster was helped out by Leon Day who recorded his 1st save. Stan
Coveleski(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief.
AL POST WWII AT JAPANESE LEAGUE

Katsuya Nomura smashed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Takehiko Bessho tossed a
complete game as the Japanese League HOF Players defeated the AL Post WWII
club by the score of 5 to 3 at Nintendo Field.
Nomura helped send the fans home happy. He lost the ball over the fence for
three runs in the 3rd inning and cracked a two-run shot (his 4th of the
season) in the 8th inning. Japanese League won despite being out-hit by AL
Post WWII 10 hits to 7.
The victory went to Bessho(1-2) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. Hoyt
Wilhelm(0-1) suffered the loss in relief.
TURN OF CENTURY AT OLD TIMERS

Billy Hamilton had 2 base hits at Cow Pasture Field as the Old Timers Ancients
beat the Turn of Century Centurions in 11 innings by the count of 5 to
4.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Old Timers won the game in the
11th inning. George Davis hit a single. After another out, Pud Galvin
stepped in and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Hamilton then was walked
intentionally. John Ward was up next and he delivered a base-hit resulting
in an exciting win for Old Timers and a raucous post-game celebration by the
home town fans. Old Timers managed 11 in their victory.
Galvin(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no
runs. Vic Willis(1-1) was hit with the loss in relief.

Jeeberoni Potpie slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the FOFC All Stars
defeated the Left Outs Leftovers by a score of 6 to 3 at FOFC
Stadium.
Potpie had a good day at the plate. He delivered a solo blast in the 4th
inning, laced a base-hit in the 6th inning and belted a three-run homer (his
8th of the season) in the 7th inning. FOFC had a total of 10 hits for the
game.
The winning pitcher was Brian Babson(4-0) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings.
Jace Kronside recorded his 3rd save. Early Wynn(0-4) was charged with the
loss in relief. He was not very effective, surrendering 4 runs in 2 innings.
