Shortstop Honus Wagner blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Turn of Century
Centurions won in dramatic fashion over the Caribbean Estrellas by a score of
5 to 3 at Yellowstone Park.
Turn of Century erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3
runs on 3 hits. Hugh Duffy started the inning off right when he laced a
base-knock. Jesse Burkett came to the plate and stroked a base-hit. Wagner
then lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 1st of the season)
making Turn of Century victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
For the game Turn of Century out-hit Caribbean 11 to 4.
Vic Willis(2-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Mike Garcia(1-2)
absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and no walks without
retiring a batter.
Connie Mack was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought
game like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see
the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win tonight!'

Mickey Welch tossed a complete game as the Old Timers Ancients defeated the
Late 20th Modern Stars by a score of 2 to 1 at Free Agent Field.
Old Timers scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. After two were out Sam
Thompson delivered a solo blast (his 2nd of the season). Late 20th had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Welch(3-1), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Randy
Johnson(2-4) took the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing 8 hits and 4
walks.
With this win, Old Timers has a 9-11 record. They have been 5-5 lately. Late
20th continued their losing ways and their record is now 11-13. They are 2-8
in their last ten games.

Center fielder Mickey Mantle had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the AL Pre WWII club were
badly beaten by the AL Post WWII team, 15 to 3.
Mantle had a big day against AL Pre WWII. He hit a single in the 4th inning,
ripped a base-knock in the 6th inning, laced a one-base hit scoring a run in
the 8th inning and lofted a three-run bomb (his 6th of the season) in the 9th
inning. AL Post WWII provided plenty of action in the 8th inning with 8 runs
on 7 hits and the 9th inning scoring 4 runs. AL Pre WWII was out-hit by AL
Post WWII, 16 hits to 6.
The winning pitcher was Whitey Ford(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Carl
Mays(1-3) was the loser. He allowed 11 hits and 5 walks in 7 and 1/3
innings.

In a dramatic ending the Left Outs Leftovers staged a comeback and held on to
win over the NL Post WWII ballclub by the count of 9 to 8.
Left Outs had the game winning rally in the 9th inning when they scored 5 runs
on 2 hits. The key at-bat was by Jackie Robinson who deflated the spirits of
the home town crowd when he smacked a single bringing in two baserunners. NL
Post WWII had 14 hits in the game while Left Outs had 8, but Left Outs had
the more timely hits.
Robin Roberts(3-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
1 run. Roberts got relief help from Ferguson Jenkins who gained credit for
his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Jim Bunning(1-3) in relief. He pitched
1 inning giving up 2 hits and 1 walk.
Bunning was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'

Home Run Baker had 3 base hits and 5 RBI and Ed Walsh went the distance at
Deadball Park where the Dead Ball Era Ghosts beat the Negro League II Twos by
the score of 8 to 2.
Baker made sure the Dead Ball Era fans enjoyed themselves. He tripled
bringing in a run in the 2nd inning, laced a base-hit plating two runs in the
5th inning and laced a one-base hit which was good for two runs in the 6th
inning. Dead Ball Era had a total of 12 hits for the game.
Walsh(3-3) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. The loss was
charged to Frank Wickware(1-4). He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 5
walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

In a close game it was the FOFC All Stars 10, the NL Pre WWII team 8 at FOFC
Stadium.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Jeeberoni Potpie. He blasted a two-run home run (his 9th of the
season) in the 1st inning, slapped a single in the 3rd inning and doubled
resulting in a run in the 7th inning. NL Pre WWII threatened in the 9th but
FOFC was able to put down the rally.
Owen Hunter(2-1) got the win allowing 6 runs in 6 innings. Rube Marquard(1-3)
ended up with the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 4 innings of
work.
FOFC continued their winnings ways improving their record to a division
leading 20-3. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. With this loss, NL Pre
WWII has a 5-5 record of late, 14-8 overall.
