Yeah, I agree. I really enjoyed it, although the backstory of the games and knowing enough about the books really helps.
As for the multiple timeline bit, I don't remember it being really relevant until around midseason, by which point surely when you've seen a young Calanthe vs the one you saw in the first episode, and you can figure out what is going on?
