ESSZ Age Group Championships – @ GaTech - 3/20-3/23

This event, unlike state makes no distinction based on age. All events are by age group, so Bailey and Bear are on the low end of the 11/12 year olds...

Bailey

100 Fly – 1:08.43 – 74 kids around the Southeast qualified for this event, and Bailey is seeded last…My guess is she won’t end up last. There are 9 girls less than half a second faster than her coming in, and I’ll bet she beats a couple.

200 Fly – 2:32.07 – Bailey’s ability to swim the fly for longer distances effectively is obvious here as she is seeded 30 out of 46, much better than her seed in the 100 Fly…

100 Back – 1:08.69 – Actually, Bailey doesn’t have this cut, but the coach thinks she can get it, and if we are going to be down there, might as well give her another race to swim. She needs to cut about .6 seconds, and I think she will. However, she’s also likely to finish last out of the 83 swimmers in the event. But again, last in a Southeast Regional race is nothing to be ashamed of.

Bear

1000 Free – 11:52.63 – Currently the psych sheet doesn’t show Bear in this event, because it is the same day as the 400 IM and Bear was initially scheduled to swim that race. That is until the 1650 was dropped from the event list for 11/12 year olds. Once that drop occurred Bear changed to the 1000. The 1000 is swum open and the finishes adjusted based on age, so determining he seed is difficult, but regardless of age he’s got about 20+ kids that will be seeded behind him.

500 Free – 5:45.69 – Like Bailey in the 100 Back, Bear doesn’t actually have this cut, but he’s only 2 seconds off, and the coach feels good he can get it.

200 Fly – 2:34.44 – Bear is seeded 25 out of 25…

200 Free Relay – Bear will be on the B 200 Free Relay as well…

Obviously, as you can see from the comments above, and the kids seeds, this is a meet we are doing for the experience and fun of doing it. We have no level of expectation, we just hope the kids do well and walk away with a lot of confidence and good memories.

Maybe next year, we can hope to crack the top 10 somewhere...
