I'll add a grid that should help. I'm thinking the clues tell us how to read this grid.

Lots of vowels and common consonants. I'm thinking the answer is straight out of the grid once we know where to start.

The first letters of the clues, however, don't look like words. I'm not ruling out a telephone keypad being part of the solution, but not having anything to match 1 or 10 makes it a bit of a stretch.
