I think they did a good job setting it up. Also, Walt's last few lies to Jesse have been incredibly weak. I think Walt has gotten so used to lying to Jesse that, at this point, he things he can pretty much say anything and have Jesse believe it. This goes back to Walt's hubris, which has always been one of, if not the, character's tragic flaws.
