We struggled again this week, and as result, we got shut out by Northwestern. I thought we might have a good chance to win this one, but we suffered from the same problems that plagued us during our first two games. We're having a tough time putting the ball in the end zone, and our defense is letting teams run the ball down our throat.

Deon Scribner (8-23, 154 yards, 2 INT) is really struggling. He can't find his rhythm, and teams are loading up the box against us and daring Blaine Kooistra to get past them. He ran hard today, gaining 81 yards on 19 carries, but otherwise, our offense didn't get anything going. We haven't scored a touchdown in nine quarters, except on returns.

LB Neal Hopkins continued to look more comfortable this week, making 15 tackles. We wish more of those ballcarriers were getting knocked down at the line of scrimmage, but we're really struggling at the point of attack.

We begin our MAC season with a big game against Northern Illinois at home. I hope we can work a few more of the kinks out before then.

Recruiting Update
We have two players visiting us this week:

FB Paul Conway
C Alan Shannon

Conway is a tough kid out of Cleveland. Shannon is an area kid who has a great motor. Neither one of them are making the experts drool, but we think both of them--especially Shannon--are better than the scouting reports say they are.
