97,817 for the home opener. Was hoping we might see a little spike from last year, but apparently not for this game.

The season starts off much like last year - holding penalty on 3rd and long to continue an opponent drive.
Their RB goes for 17, putting them right on the edge of field goal range.
CB Elijah McCallister leaves the game with a nose injury that looks like it could be serious.
DT Jack Farmer brings the pain on 3rd down, sacking the QB for a 9 yard loss and setting up a long field goal attempt. 52 yarder is good, 3-0, 11:15 to play in the quarter.

Harold Edwards completes his first attempt for 14 yards to Voight.
OT Lonie Smith leaves the game with a shoulder injury.
Edwards is sacked on 3rd and 6, knocking us out of field goal range.
We punt and leave Wake at the 6 yard line.

OLB Adrian Kyle, who is having a good game early, picks off a pass and runs it back to the 15 yard line.
An offsides penalty on Wake gives us a first down at the 5 instead of 4th and 1.
Edwards completes a TD pass to Voight. 7-3, 5:55 left in the quarter.

3 and out for Wake.

Edwards is picked on first down. He isn't impressing against a weak opponent.

The defense comes on the field in an angry mood, forcing a 4th and 21.

Edwards takes another sack - this guy is really unbelievably bad about that.
I'm very worried that our team won't take flight until we stabalize the QB position.
We have to punt, but force a fumble on the return. Recovered by UCLA, starting at the 18.

We can't pick up a first down, so we have to settle for a 29 yard field goal attempt. First of the career for Ellis - wide right!

Wake comes out moving the ball, picking up good first downs on the ground and through the air.
RB Jeff Weaver is making us look bad, 7 carries for 52 yards. Into field goal range.
4th and 1 from our 10. They kick a 28 yard field goal, 7-6, 9:58 left in the half.

Edwards had to listen to my displeasure on the sidelines during the Wake drive and he is trying to respond. 30 yard grab for Brewer, although I give the credit to the WR for making a great play to haul it in.
The backup QB also is sacked.
We punt from their 41, and stick them at the 3.

Wake is driving on us again. Back to back 20 yard passes, down to our 27.
Another defensive holding penalty - Wake inside the 20.
4th and 2 from the 9 - they take the field goal from 27. 9-7, 2:32 left in the half.

Brewer makes another play on 3rd down, beating his man and getting extra yards on a 23 yard pass.
Drive ends at the UCLA 38. Punt.

Weaver has a 24 yard run, out near midfield.
Drive ends when they fail a 4th down screen pass with less than 10 seconds remaining in the half.

Halftime Notes:
Embarrassing. Wake has outgained us by 50 yards and has had the ball for an extra five minutes. We aren't getting a consistent effort in any phase of the game.
If it wasn't for turnovers we would be getting dominated.

The Demon Deacon kicker pushes the ball out of bounds, we start at the 40.
Edwards to Jackson for 16 to start the half.
Edwards to Brewer for 25.
Edwards finds Voight in the end zone from 3 yards out. Very good drive to open the half, 13-9 after failed 2 point conversion, 13:04 left in quarter.

DT Jared Burford picks up a sack on first down.
3 and out for Wake.

J.R. Jackson returns the punt for 25 yards, up to the Wake 44.
Edwards completes a screen to RB Gannon Dawson for 19 yards, down to the 23.
Edwards to Stablein for a 7 yard TD pass. 20-9, 9:06 left in quarter.
Edwards is now 16-21 for 179 yards and 3 TDs (1 INT). He wants me to get off his back.

Wake picks up 11 on the ground on 3rd and 9 to avoid the 3 and out.
They are forced to punt from midfield.

Edwards takes another sack.
But Dawson makes it up with a 19 yard run. Perhaps he is finally starting to find a groove on the ground - 12 carries for 64 yards.
QB John Rattay picks up a 3rd down, finding Voight. Into field goal range.
We give Rattay a number of downs in a row at the controls, but that plan doesn't bear fruit when he is picked off inside the 10 yard line.

DT Jared Burford collects his 2nd sack of the day on 3rd down to force a punt.
The Wake RB Weaver had 85 yards in the first half. He has 4 in the last 17 minutes.

Edwards finds Jackson on the sideline for 20 yards.
And Rattay finishes the drive with a 9 yard TD pass to Brewer. First TD pass of his career. 27-9, 11:31 left to play.

K Ellis puts the kickoff into the stands at about the 10 yard line. Out of bounds.
3 and out for Wake. Their QB completion percentage is under 50%.

Rattay is looking pretty good this game. 19 yard pass to Jackson on 3rd and 7, he is 9-12 for 83 yards with the TD and INT.
Edwards completes a 16 yard TD pass to Jackson. 34-9, 5:01 left in the game.
Jackson now has 9 catches for 115 yards and a TD.

Wake has 34 yards in 26 minutes so far in the 2nd half.
3 and out again.

We are pounding out clock on the ground. Dawson goes over 100 yards on his 23rd carry.
7 straight runs, and attempted 46 yard field goal. No good. This new kicker sucks so far.

Burford gets his 3rd sack on a 4th down desperation play.

Very nice 2nd half on both ends of the ball after a hideous first half.
