Because he is officially the last of the FRANCHISE players. Franchise players were players that each team had back in the days of SLOP yore. They were signed to a lifetime deal that was uncapped. The rule was retired, but the players under that deal remained in it until they retired.
I didn't even realize it, until you said it that he's the last one. But I went
back to look and he's the last one to remain among the fray.
Sorta crazy.
