Wake Forest Cougars (3-0-0, 1st) vs Lexington Thoroughbreds (1-0-2, 14th)
Attendence: 290
Starting Lineup
GK: Gyan
D: Campbell/Hernandez/Forrest/Jackson
M: Tapia/Wilkins
AM: Rose/Cooper
ST: Navarro/Ratzburg
A couple changes today, not too many. Standard mindset at home.
3': Cooper with a free kick 22'ish yards out to the right of center a bit, he shoots, and its just perfect. Upper left corner of the goal, no chance anyone wuld ever stop that. 1-0
12': Campbell with some good D to bother an attacker, he eventually gets a cross in, Forrest heads it out.
15': Rose to Cooper for a rather difficult shot from 20 yards out, it hits the post, close.
15': Forrest with a yellow.
18': Cooper with a beautiful ball from 35 yards out into the area, Navarro sprints by his defender, strikes it with his first touch, and its a goal. 2-0
26': We win a ball off a goal kick ,its quickly up ahead, Wilkins to Cooper for a shot, but its a poor shot.
27': Wilkins up to Ratzburg, he sends it over to Navarro, shoots from 18 yards, goal!! 3-0
32': Wilkins with a nice pass ahead to Rose but Rose is clearly offsides, goal disallowed.
42': Wilkins with a long ball to Navarro, Navarro with a clear cut chance, but saved. Corner goes nowhere.
43': Ian Cooper is hurt and must leave the match. Adam Fisher is in.
HALF: 8 shots to 3, 3 clear cut chances for us, we are in full control here.
47': They get a great look after a ball in from the right side, but shot right at Gyan. Corner goes nowhere.
56': An interception in defense triggers a very quick break for Lexington, 3 passes and they have a clear cut chance as ST Lee got behind the defense, but he shoots it over.
60': They finally get one back, Lee with good control of a cross and he has a nice finish from the left side of the area. 3-1
66': Some awful defending as Campbell comes out 30 yards from goal to defense a central midfielder with the ball, leaving his man all alone in the area... he receives the ball and scores easily. 3-2
79': Shakespeare in for Tapia, Galvis in for Forrest.
81': Hernandez with a nice long ball for Navarro, he's behind the defense, but they catch up before he can manage a shot, blocked.
We hang on and the final 10 minutes are uneventful.
Wake Forest 3 : 2 Lexington
Man of the Match: Ronnie Navarro (8.8)
Goals: Navarro 2, Cooper (8.2)
Assists: Cooper, Ratzburg (6.8)
Notables: Wilkins (7.3)
This is the second time Wilkins has put up a rather strong rating without actually making any assists.
Navarro is absolutely on fire for us right now, 4 goals in 5 matches.
Injury Update
Oh, bad news. AMR Ian Cooper has a torn hamstring and is going to miss 3-4 months. We have coverage here, and Adam Fisher has been an exciting young player for us early on, but Cooper is so reliable, losing him will really hurt.
