A rookie coach: from the bottom to the top

Mike Schaplowsky is just a mere 22 years old, fresh out of college. He had a standout high school basketball career at Wichita West High School, where he was named all-state 3 years in a row. He translated that into a 2 year career at Butler County Community College, then went to Wichita State for his final 2 seasons.

Many thought that he would wind up playing pro ball, either in the NBA or overseas, but the world was shocked when he announced his retirement just 1 day after signing a free agent contract with the Chicago Bulls, saying "I don't have the passion to be a player anymore. I want to be a coach."

But Mike didn't just want to coach any old team, he wanted to coach in NCAA Division 1. "I don't care where, I don't care who, but I want to be a D1 coach. Give the young guys a shot."

So the word was out about Coach Schaplowsky, but he knew he would have to be a spectator for the 2013-2014 season, as no jobs were available. So he would sit and wait....
