I think Walt essentially blames Jesse for Hank's death. Between telling Frank where Jesse was hiding and telling him about watching his girlfriend die and do nothing about it, I think Walt is pretty much done with Jesse.

We know he buys the gun on his 52nd birthday. I forget when he had his 51st birthday, so I am not sure how much time is supposed to have passed between now and when he comes back from New Hampshire.
