Half way through the season saw the Ramblers in second position and looking at securing a vital UEFA cup place (essential for the finances to work). Success in the league came at the price of fielding reserves in the two minor cup competitions. A worrying slide against Waterford and Sligo led Portiere to wonder if his smaller squad has hit the wall.

However, thanks to a lucky set of draws that avoided the top 4, Ramblers defeated St. Pat’s in the Senior Challenge Cup Final 3-1, though it was a nervy finish, with the goals all coming after the 80^th minute.
