Thanks for the times and the explanation, it's a very similar process down here for big meets, so nothing you explained seems peculiar.

Your experiences with Matthew are very common in the sport. Growth can really cause havoc with a kid's strokes...and tall kids are impacted in a more pronounced way (we don't really have the tall issue, but we've had problems with growth in the past). The reluctance to swim longer events is normal, and holding back when he actually does swim them is also typical, but once he figures it out, it becomes really awesome. You talked about loving to watch him swim, wait until you start seeing him gut out a 200 fly, 400 IM, or distance free. Also, once he starts embracing those races, I suspect two things will happen - 1, he'll get those cuts pretty quickly, and 2 - his sprints will quickly start to improve as well.

I'll be interested to hear how he's doing, please keep me informed.
