It's a good point that you make...
In fairness, my last captain was a starter for two full seasons before he started being rotated in and then last year he was essentially bench fodder. My vice captain was GK Ingo Wilke and he played most of the games...
I guess my theory is this: pick the best choice as captain using influence, determination and work ethic but if it's a bench player, make sure the vice captain plays a lot. I figure that I avoid a morale hit that way but there's still the possible issue of the vice captain not being an appropriate choice either - I got a lot of messages from my assistant in the advice screen that some of my players found it "hard to get motivated with Wilke as captain" so I have to be mindful of that too.
