There's something different about the team this year and their comfort level with the tactics. I kid you not, it took until December last year before the team was 100% comfortable (according to the match preparation screen) in our two main tactics, the flat 4-4-2 control and the 4-2-3-1. Only then did we start training them to learn the flat 4-4-2 counter.
This year, maybe due to the fact that I added so few "first-team" players, we retained that tactical knowledge and went into preseason with a full understanding of the tactics. It seems to be making a big difference - this is the first time I'm really utilizing the counter attack strategy as a base formation and we're generating tons of great chances, albeit while giving up any thoughts of dominating possession. I'm hopeful I can parlay that tactic into wins against the bigger clubs that I've historically had trouble with, like United, City and the like.
