In a tight game it was the Atlanta Braves 5, the Cincinnati Reds 3 at FULTON
CTY STADIUM.
Atlanta had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning. Glenn
Hubbard started the inning off right when he drew a walk. After an out was
recorded, Brad Komminsk stepped up to the plate and he lined a base-hit.
Komminsk took his lead and swiped second. Paul Zuvella was up next and he
was walked intentionally to load the bases. One out later, Dale Murphy came
up and he slapped a single which was good for two runs. Atlanta rapped out
11 hits for the afternoon.
Rick Camp(1-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Gene
Garber recorded his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was Tom Browning(0-2).

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Chicago Cubs by a score of 6 to 3 at
WRIGLEY FIELD.
Philadelphia had the game winning rally in the top of the 8th inning with 3
runs utilizing 4 base hits. Von Hayes led off the inning for Philadelphia
when he doubled. Glenn Wilson was next and he doubled resulting in a run.
Ozzie Virgil then blasted a two-run home run (his 3rd of the season).
Philadelphia finished with 10 hits while Chicago ended up with 5.
Kevin Gross(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 3
runs. Gross was helped out by Don Carman who recorded his 1st save. George
Frazier(0-1) was the loser in relief.

First baseman Greg Brock had 2 base hits and 3 RBI and Ken Howell had a strong
outing as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Houston Astros by the score of
10 to 7 at DODGER STADIUM.
Howell(1-0) was dominant in relief. He did not allow a baserunner in his 4
innings and racked up 5 strikeouts reducing his ERA from 5.40 to 1.59. Los
Angeles had a total of 9 hits for the game.
Howell got help from Bobby Castillo who earned his 1st save. Joe Niekro(0-2)
took the loss. He pitched 1 inning giving up 7 hits and 1 walk.

Center fielder Joe Orsulak had 4 hits at THREE RIVERS STADIUM as the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Mets 4 to 3.
In the bottom of the 5th inning Pittsburgh went on top for good plating an
isolated run using 2 hits. The New York bats were silent in the 9th.
The victory went to Rick Reuschel(2-0) who went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs.
Pat Clements recorded the save, his 1st. Ron Darling(0-1) absorbed the loss.

Chris Brown launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the San Francisco Giants
defeated the San Diego Padres by a score of 4 to 1 at JACK MURPHY
STADIUM.
San Francisco erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3
runs on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Mike Krukow initiated the scoring
spurt when he drew a walk. Dan Gladden got his chance to keep things going,
but he went down on strikes. Manny Trillo then singled. Brown came up and
he rifled a three-run blast (his 2nd of the season). Mark Davis was perfect
in relief and gained credit for his 3rd save.
The victory was credited to Krukow(1-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 1 run.
Roy Lee Jackson(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He gave up 3 runs and 3
hits in 2/3 of an inning.
