We can't prove anything about what the elf is saying until we reach the end of the crawl. This could very well be a desperate attempt to not be killed, knowing that he's near the end of his leash (ha!).
As I said above, I think it's a very reasonable number, and combined w/ my gut instinct, I'm inclined to believe that number for now.
